Reconciliation Week 2021 – Collective Canvas

For Reconciliation Week this year, our Aboriginal students and their families worked with Whadjuk Noongar artist Julianne Wade to create a collective canvas using traditional dot painting techniques.

The canvas shows two koorlangka (children) playing on the banks of the Derbarl Yerrigan (Swan River). You can see the circle where the Whadjuk Noongar people used to camp by the river and the trails they took through the area. In the foreground you can see the maali (black swan) which is always swimming on the river. In the background are all the connections between the people here, from our ancient past, through the present, and into the future.

The painting is on display in our front office.
